When you inquire about a dog, the following questions might be helpful:

1. Why are you giving up your dog?

2. Has the dog ever bitten, nipped or 'gone after' anyone?

3. Does it have any health problems? Who is your vet? May I contact him/her?

4. Where did you get the dog? Does it have papers?

5. Does your dog have any training? Is it housebroken? crate trained?

6. Is the dog left alone for long periods? What does it do? Bark? Dig? Chew? Is it an inside or outside dog? Where does it sleep?

7. How does the dog behave with adults, children? Other dogs? Cats?

8. Is your dog mellow? calm? energetic? protective? affectionate?

This dog was found abandoned on my road in the east hills, and we cannot keep him. We tried and failed to find his owner, took him to the shelter, and he was not claimed, so we have taken him back into our home to avoid having him put down.

The shelter thinks he is about six. He is housebroken (no accidents at all) and knows "sit" and "stay." He walks well on a leash, but pulls if he senses something exciting, such as a deer. He is easily excitable around other dogs. He will need some training but has shown progress in the time that we have had him.

Due to his excitable nature, he probably should not be around cats or other small animals. He likes children and is very gentle, but I would not advise that a child handle him or walk him on their own, as he is strong and needs some additional leash training. He would also require a yard that he cannot escape from if owners plan to leave him outside at any time.

He is neutered, chipped, and up-to-date on vaccines. His teeth are healthy. He weighs about 85 lbs.

We are not asking for any fee--just a good, loving home with people who have time to work with him.
