When you inquire about a dog, the following questions might be helpful:

1. Why are you giving up your dog?

2. Has the dog ever bitten, nipped or 'gone after' anyone?

3. Does it have any health problems? Who is your vet? May I contact him/her?

4. Where did you get the dog? Does it have papers?

5. Does your dog have any training? Is it housebroken? crate trained?

6. Is the dog left alone for long periods? What does it do? Bark? Dig? Chew? Is it an inside or outside dog? Where does it sleep?

7. How does the dog behave with adults, children? Other dogs? Cats?

8. Is your dog mellow? calm? energetic? protective? affectionate?

Seva is currently being fostered (since 10/11/2024) due the owner’s medical incapacity and inability to care for her. Seva is a wonderfully engaging, gentle and sweet girl. She absolutely loves people, has never bitten anyone, and is immediately friendly to strangers. Seva is not socialized with other dogs as she was not exposed to them early on but she’s not reactive at the vet or groomer. She will usually react to seeing dogs on walks and will need gradual exposure over time. In all other ways, Seva is a very good girl. Seva sleeps in her dog bed or on the couch during the day and on the bed with her foster parent at night. She sometimes will complain with a little growl when nudged to move over when she is crowding her foster parent (she prefers to cuddle), but she never bites. Seva doesn’t bark very much, but will at the sound of a neighbor’s dog and briefly to alert you when someone comes to the door. She is sensitive and curious and is interested in all that is going on and always wants to participate. Seva is a well behaved dog, loves to play fetch and tug-o’-war. She will bring one of her toys to you to invite you to play. She is good on leash and in the car, comes when called, learned to comply with an “out” command when her foster parent is in the kitchen cooking. She quickly learned to respond to hand signals for “sit” and “lay down”. She plays only with her toys and doesn’t chew on shoes or other objects. Her foster home has a sunroom where she has access to the outside during times when she is left alone, the longest being about 4.5 hours. Seva has recently been left in the house for a few shorter periods of up to two-three hours without any problem. Other than her insecurity around other dogs, she will be a wonderful family member in all other regards.

Seva’s breeder, Covy-Tucker Hill kennels, has garnered more records than most in the history of the breed. In 1987, “Manhattan” was the first and only German Shepherd to win Westminster Best in Show until 2017. Seva’s pedigree documents and her complete medical records from her vet at Corte Madeira Vet Hospital are with her foster parent and are available.
