When you inquire about a dog, the following questions might be helpful:

1. Why are you giving up your dog?

2. Has the dog ever bitten, nipped or 'gone after' anyone?

3. Does it have any health problems? Who is your vet? May I contact him/her?

4. Where did you get the dog? Does it have papers?

5. Does your dog have any training? Is it housebroken? crate trained?

6. Is the dog left alone for long periods? What does it do? Bark? Dig? Chew? Is it an inside or outside dog? Where does it sleep?

7. How does the dog behave with adults, children? Other dogs? Cats?

8. Is your dog mellow? calm? energetic? protective? affectionate?

I’m a handsome male German Shepherd mix who is bicolored, black and tan. I was born on January, 1, 2023. My previous owner lost the right to keep me and my canine companion, due to neglect. When I was rescued, the veterinarian said I was almost 20% underweight. My foster home made sure I received lots of the best food, so I have filled out beautifully. I now weigh about 74 lbs, with good muscle mass.

I am a strong dog, I run very fast, and I have bursts of big energy. I am alert and extremely interested in other animals-- rodents, birds, cats, horses, goats… you name it, I want to check them out and see how fast they can run! I have a strong prey drive and probably can’t be trusted in a home with cats. I’d love it if you could throw a tennis ball for me! I’ll run and get it and bring it back. I need to channel some energy every day, but I can also be a couch potato and just chill out for a while. I am the best of both worlds-- energetic and calm.I can be protective, so I might bark at someone who appears to be a threat. People walking outside my house that I can see through the window can be scary for me. I would make a good guard dog!

I have lived with older children, and I am comfortable with them. I have a little experience with smaller children while I have been on a leash.

I am kennel-trained, and I am learning to sit, lie down, load up, sit-stay, and down-stay. I have learned a lot with the positive reinforcement of treats. I am a smart dog. I could be trained to be a service dog. While I do take a bit of time to warm up to other dogs, I do best with female dogs and have a great time playing with them.
