She’s a high-energy girl. She has no problem chilling around in the house with you and will snooze for hours on end, but she needs more than an hour outside. Having time off leash to run and to sniff unhindered by the leash is her favorite activity. She is also a loving pup who attaches to you and cuddles.
Laguna also has struggles that require you to have time, dedication, patience, and love for.
She struggles with being on leash. She has trouble with impulse control, reactivity to the bustling life around her, and a lot of tugging to get to where she wants to go. She needs consistent training for this so walks are easier for human and dog.
Laguna’s biggest issue is her biting. Don’t let this scare you; she has no aggression towards you. This is puppy biting ingrained into her; she has no bite inhibition, and she feels that she is playing around when she is biting. However, this can turn into a problem with guests who don’t want to be bitten by a large dog, or when she decides it’s time to latch onto your arm, which can cause pain and leave bruises. I believe there is also something instinctual behind it as well. When I first got her, the biting was more frequent on our outings, but over time she has bitten less. She usually bites in the home as a form of play.
Laguna loves people and dogs. She struggles with reactivity to dogs due to her high energy that has nowhere to go; she sees a dog and immediately wants to go after. Meeting up with another dog usually ends in her initiating play. She has a hunting instinct, so cats are a no-go.
She knows how to sit. She can heel if you can get her to focus on you. She likes to have her food thrown on the ground so she can sniff around for it; she is a sniffer.
She can get destructive when left alone. An interactive toy or something like a Kong is a must (she gets one daily while I’m gone). I am working on crate training with her. She is also housebroken. She has gone in the house when she gets tummy trouble.
I got her from a shelter in June, I’ve been taking the time to figure out if this dog is the right fit for me, and I’ve decided that she needs someone who can better handle her high needs. She needs mental stimulation, walks, runs, and training to make life smoother. She needs someone who wants a high-energy dog, who can dedicate time to her, and has the patience to go through the training she really needs to be a great dog. She’ll love hiking with you for long periods, going to the beach, going out with you in car rides to stick her head out the window, or just cuddling inside after a long day.
